South Florida Employment, Job Market Show Improvement

South Florida’s unemployment rate fell last month from 11.5 percent down to 10.9 percent, according to the South Florida Business Journal. The change was due to a drop in the labor force and an increased number of people finding employment. The article breaks down the unemployment rate, number of people employed, and the labor force by county, including Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach.

Even with the state’s unemployment rate high, its job market is showing slow but sure signs of improvement. The Orlando Sentinel recently published an article about this, pointing to four consecutive months of “adding jobs on a year-over-year basis.” Further, firings in Florida actually reached their peak in 2009 and have since decreased pretty steadily.

And let’s not forget about the Deep Dredge Project, which is expected to create about 30,000 local jobs and make the Port of Miami even more accessible.
